Blade Runner 2049
35 years ago, the original Blade Runner was released to initially ho-hummy reviews and ticket sales that might be generously called ‘unexceptional’. Eventually, however, the dystopian but visually extraordinary movie has claimed its rightful place as a masterpiece, influencing popular culture like few others. On Oct 6th, a sequel, Blade Runner 2049 arrives, starring Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto and reprising his role as the existentially disturbed ‘blade runner’ who hunts down replicants, Harrison Ford.
It’s a challenge to follow up a classic. How many sequels actually better or even equal the original? The trailers look great. Fingers crossed.
