Life’s A Drag
We could argue all day about whether drag retains any hint of the subversive, transgressive, countercultural masquerade it once defiantly was. The success of RuPaul’s Drag Race has created a mainstream audience encouraged by the commercial branding of the drag scene with its own recognised codes and behaviours and language. As long as you can quote selected passages from ‘Paris Is Burning’ and do a passing impression of a stereotypical black woman complete with finger clicks and the occasional ‘YASS, QUEEN’ thrown in, these days it seems you’re good.
So stand by for what we imagine will be two whole days of this at Dragworld – Europe’s Largest Celebration of Drag returning to Olympia on the 17th and 18th of August 2019. Two days packed with Q&A’s, demonstrations, meet and greets and panels as well as the opportunity to spend all your pocket money on merch with the best of UK and US Drag royalty.
