A Guide To Indulgence
Nadia Lee Cohen
What does it take to be beautiful?
This is a question we are always asking ourselves at Balans Soho Society. It’s why we have so many mirrors on our walls. We believe indulgence is key.
British photographer and filmmaker Nadia Lee Cohen takes a satirical look at feminine beauty ideals. Her incredibly stylish film sees a sorority of wax-faced women offer a tongue-in-cheek guide to achieving beauty.
‘The constant pressure of striving for perfection is so familiar in the world we inhabit. In response to homogeneous ideals of beauty I wanted to create a satirical world in which the female inhabitants have pushed their appearances into cartoonish, melodramatic and extreme representations of femininity; yet are still looking to improve themselves even further.’
